We bought MacDuff from our breeder in Western
Maryland back in 2000. When we went to pick him up, a blizzard
had just finished and we had to park my car at the end of the road
and walk about a quarter mile in the snow (up hill) just to get to
the house. From the day we brought him home, he's been
obsessed with snow. He loves snow. When he was a puppy,
we'd call him the "snow plow". He would go out in the snow,
stick his nose and face in the snow so that you could only see his
ears and the top of his head, and start walking and snorting as if
he were trying to track down a tennis ball that had been buried by
the storm. He would occasionally lift his head out of the snow
to get his bearings. His hair would be ice-coated and packed
with snow, and just his black nose and eyes were visible in the
snow-ball with golden ears.
At the time, I was working at Pizza Hut (night
shift) so I had all day to spend with my new buddy. He was my
best friend during the day and would do anything I asked him to...
as long as I could clearly convey my request to him. A tennis
ball in hand also really helped with his cooperation.
Actually, he'd do anything for a tennis ball, it had very little to
do with me personally.
